Support for DRV rowing boats at the 2nd World Cup in Varese

From June 14th to June 18th, 2023, I had the pleasure of supporting the German Rowing National Team at the 2nd World Cup of the International Rowing Federation  in Varese zu betreuen.

Three weeks after the European Championships, 17 boats from the German Rowing Association (DRV) competed against international competition. In total, approximately 650 athletes from 42 nations participated. Besides the European teams, strong rowing nations such as Australia, the USA, Canada, and China also competed. This event served as an important benchmark for the upcoming World Championships and Olympic qualification in September.

Varese, located just over 50 kilometers north of Milan, has established itself as a rowing venue with numerous international events. However, the idyllic lake surrounded by mountains can present challenging conditions depending on the weather.

Overall, the competition day in Varese was positive for the DRV rowing boats and their teams. There were two victories in the single sculls, as well as bronze in the women's quadruple sculls and the men's eight. Two fifth places for the lightweight double sculls and the men's quadruple sculls, as well as a sixth place in the women's pair, rounded off the final results.

It was a great pleasure and honor for me to accompany and support the DRV rowing boats and their teams at the 2nd World Cup in Varese. I congratulate all athletes for their outstanding performances and thank everyone involved for the excellent collaboration.
