Support for the German U23 Rowing National Team
Support for theGerman U23 Rowing National Team from July 5th to July 11th, 2021, at the World Championships in Račice, Czech Republic.
From 5 to 11 July 2021, I accompanied the U23 national rowing team to the World Championships in Račice, Czech Republic, and provided medical care. Together with physiotherapists Ann-Katrin Sauer and Philip Säckel, we looked after around 100 athletes, coaches and support staff. The German team won a total of 12 medals. The event was held under coronavirus restrictions, which meant regular PCR tests and “living in a bubble” for the entire team.
Medical support took place throughout the World Championships. This included care around the races and close coordination with the physiotherapists, coaches and support staff. This allowed athletes’ concerns and questions to be addressed directly and supported the team during the competition schedule.
The special conditions of the event also shaped the daily work. The entire team had to undergo regular PCR tests and follow the shared rules of living in a “bubble”. Care therefore had to take into account both the sporting requirements and the applicable hygiene measures.
Račice in the Czech Republic was where the U23 national rowing team competed in the World Championships. Winning a total of 12 medals was a successful result for the German team. I remember the cooperation with the team and the medical support during those days fondly.
