Experience from everyday life to elite sport
As a specialist in orthopaedics and trauma surgery and in physical and rehabilitation medicine, I combine orthopaedic assessment with a functional perspective on movement and physical capacity. Sports medicine has been part of my medical work for more than 20 years.

We begin with your history and a careful examination. I want to understand when your symptoms occur, what you have already tried and what questions you have. We interpret existing findings together.
I explain treatment options, their potential benefits and limitations. My approach favours non-surgical care where appropriate, without rejecting surgery on principle. What matters is the benefit it may offer in your situation, the alternatives and the right timing.
Experience in elite sport
For many years, I have accompanied the German national rowing team as a physician at training camps and competitions. Previously, I looked after SC Freiburg’s professional team from 2004 to 2013. My work also includes the German Shooting Sport and Archery Federation and the Swiss Olympic Medical Center in Switzerland.
I also bring this experience to treating people who want to regain physical capacity in everyday life or recreational sport. Treatment always reflects your individual situation.
Areas of focus at my practice
My areas of focus include non-surgical orthopaedics, sports medicine and assessment of exercise-related symptoms. A particular focus is functional compartment pressure testing for suspected chronic exertional compartment syndrome.
I remain closely connected with Keidel Therme Freiburg through my advisory role and our ongoing cooperation.
My career
- 1991–1996: Training through successive levels of German emergency medical services qualifications, from first-response assistance to Rettungsassistent (paramedic).
- 1992–2000: Medical studies at the University of Freiburg.
- 2000: Final-year clinical training, including a placement at the UMC Trauma Center in Las Vegas, USA.
- 2001–2003: Medical internship in rehabilitative and preventive sports medicine, sports orthopaedics and sports traumatology at Freiburg University Medical Centre.
- 2003–2010: Specialist training in orthopaedics and trauma surgery at Freiburg University Medical Centre.
- 2010–2014: Training in physical therapy and balneology, and physical and rehabilitation medicine, at Freiburg University Medical Centre.
- 2016–September 2024: Independent medical practice at An den Heilquellen and spa physician at Keidel Therme Freiburg.
- Since 2024: Practice at Katharinenstraße 15 in Freiburg.
- Since September 2025: Also employed as a physician at the Swiss Olympic Medical Center in Switzerland. For this reason, I do not hold consultations at my Freiburg practice on Thursdays.
