From June 23 to July 3, 2024, I had the honor, once again, to accompany the German National Rowing Team in Völkermarkt, Austria, as their attending physician, together with my practice manager Tamino Gafner. This intensive phase of immediate competition preparation served as the final fine-tuning for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
Despite variable weather, overall training conditions were good. The athletes showed impressive determination and dedication to give their best in Paris. The training sessions were intense and meticulously planned to optimize every aspect of performance. It was inspiring to see how each individual fully concentrated on the upcoming challenges.
Under the leadership of head coach Sabine Tschäge, the German eight trained with great passion. The crew consisted of Benedict Eggeling, Frederik Breuer, Laurits Follert, Torben Johannesen, Olaf Roggensack, Niclas Schroeder, Mattes Schönherr, Max John, and coxswain Jonas Wiesen. Each member brought their individual strengths, which strengthened the team as a whole.
The coxless pair, led by head coach Alexander Weihe, also showed outstanding performances. Julius Christ and Sönke Kruse worked hard on their technique and conditioning, supported by the substitutes Jasper Angel and Theis Hagemeister. The team dynamics and cohesion were clearly noticeable and contributed significantly to motivation.
The athletes were also supported by an excellent team of specialists. Physiotherapist Magnus Erley provided the necessary physical care and regeneration, while performance diagnostician Gerold Heyden created precise analyses and customized training plans. Measurement technician Stefan Weigert was also on-site to ensure all technical equipment and measuring instruments functioned perfectly.
Head coach Brigitte Bielig visited us for a few days to observe the training and provide valuable feedback. Her presence brought additional motivation and confirmed the high level of preparation.
The atmosphere in the training camp was characterized by great tension and anticipation for the Olympics in Paris. Each day brought the team closer to the big goal, and the determination was palpable in every movement and training session. It was inspiring to be part of this dedicated team and witness their tireless efforts up close.
With great confidence and strong team spirit, we now look forward to the Olympic Games in Paris. The entire Dr. Aust practice team wishes all athletes and the entire team the best of luck for a successful Olympics. We are proud to be part of this journey and wish everyone involved much success and unforgettable moments in Paris.
