Successful Training Camp of the German Rowing National Team in Lago Azul
The training camp of the men's sweep and sculling teams of the German Rowing National Team in Lago Azul was marked by intense work and great excitement. Despite initially optimal weather conditions, the athletes were later confronted with rainy and windy weather, significantly increasing the challenges on the water. However, the atmosphere within the team remained positive and focused.
Particularly in the sweep rowing discipline, there was intense competition. This continued as in the training camp in January of this year. 22 rowers competed for 14 coveted spots in the men's eight, the coxless four, and the double sculls, aiming for the Olympic Games in Paris. This posed a major challenge for the coaching staff. Head coach Brigitte Bielig, along with her colleagues for sweep and sculling, Sabine Tschäge, Thomas Affeld, Alexander Weihe, Dirk Brockmann, and Ralph Hollmann, worked intensively on possible combinations to find the optimal lineup for the boats.
In addition to striving for a strong eight, forming a competitive coxless four is also a goal for the team management.
For me personally, it was once again a enriching experience to coach the team in Lago Azul. As a doctor and part of the support staff, I am proud to contribute to the success of these talented athletes, and I look forward to the upcoming challenges and successes.
