Orthopaedic second opinion in Freiburg

Understand the findings. Put the options into perspective. Make an informed decision.

Have you been advised to have surgery or another advanced treatment, already received MRI, CT or X-ray findings, or been given differing treatment recommendations? As part of an orthopaedic second opinion, I review your existing findings, carry out a targeted examination and discuss the medically appropriate options for what to do next.

Typical cost approx. €80–120
Fees are charged under the German Medical Fee Schedule (GOÄ) according to the services actually provided.

An important decision deserves a second assessment

A second opinion does not automatically mean that an existing recommendation is wrong. It often confirms the current treatment plan. Sometimes, however, additional conservative, diagnostic or surgical options emerge.

The key is not to view findings and imaging in isolation, but to interpret them together with your symptoms, the clinical examination, your functional capacity and your personal goals.

What to expect from the second-opinion appointment

1. Review findings & imaging

I review your existing medical reports and – where available – the relevant MRI, CT or X-ray images in the context of your medical history.

2. Targeted examination

The clinical examination complements the existing findings. This helps determine which changes are actually relevant to your symptoms and functional limitations.

3. Put treatment options into perspective

We discuss in clear terms which conservative and, where appropriate, surgical options are available, which further investigations may be useful and which next steps fit your situation.

When is a second opinion useful?

A second opinion may confirm an existing recommendation or identify additional options. It is intended to give you another specialist medical basis for making your own decision.

Costs and billing

For a typical orthopaedic second-opinion consultation, the cost is usually around €80–120.

The specific fee is calculated according to the German Medical Fee Schedule (GOÄ) according to the medical services actually provided. The effort required depends in particular on the amount of existing documentation and imaging and on the examination needed.

If the existing records are exceptionally extensive or additional diagnostics are required, the costs may be higher. Where foreseeable, this will be discussed with you in advance.

What to bring to your appointment

Please bring any available medical and operative reports, MRI, CT or X-ray images preferably as original image files, as well as previous treatment plans and an up-to-date medication list where applicable.

The more complete the relevant documents are, the better the previous recommendations can be assessed in context.

Important information

This private medical service is an individual specialist second assessment for self-pay patients. It is not the statutory second-opinion procedure under Section 27b of the German Social Code Book V (SGB V).
