Musculoskeletal conditions

Pain and restricted movement can have many different causes. At Dr Aust’s practice in Freiburg, the focus is on a careful clinical examination, clear assessment of the symptoms and an individually tailored conservative approach.

Choose the area that best matches your symptoms. These pages provide general guidance and do not replace a personal medical examination.

From symptoms to the appropriate examination

The condition pages outline typical causes and examination steps without anticipating a diagnosis. Start with the affected body region or, for sport-related problems, with the pattern of symptoms during exercise. For your appointment, information about onset, course, triggers and previous treatments is helpful. Please bring any available medical reports and X-ray, MRI or ultrasound findings. Together we decide whether the clinical examination is sufficient or whether an ultrasound examination or other diagnostic tests may be useful.

Diagnosis before treatment

Similar symptoms may have different causes. Treatment therefore starts not with a particular procedure, but with a medical history and clinical examination. Depending on the symptoms, a musculoskeletal ultrasound examination may usefully complement the clinical assessment. Previous findings and imaging are reviewed; further tests are used selectively when they may influence the treatment decision.
