2017 European Shooting Championships in Baku: Team Doctor for the DSB
In July 2017, I accompanied the German team to the European Shooting Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan. As team doctor for the German Shooting Federation (DSB), I provided medical support on site. I supported the athletes throughout the international competition.
A wonderful team and memorable encounters
I have especially fond memories of the athletes and the support team. I thoroughly enjoyed our time together. It was a pleasure to be part of this group and accompany the athletes at a European championship.
Alongside the sporting impressions, it is the encounters that have stayed with me most. An assignment like this also involves exchanging experiences within the team and sharing the occasion. These personal aspects made the trip particularly memorable for me.
2017 European Shooting Championships in Baku: The event
The championships took place from 21 July to 4 August 2017. The programme included rifle events at 50 and 300 metres and pistol events at 25 and 50 metres. There were also shotgun and running target events.
Two German quota places for the Youth Olympic Games
The event also hosted qualification competitions for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games. Nils Strubel secured a German quota place in air pistol. Johanna Theresa Tripp earned another in air rifle. These separate qualification competitions determined eligibility for the Youth Olympic Games. They did not award European championship medals.
Baku and Azerbaijan: Impressions beyond the competition
The host country also left a lasting impression on me. I found Azerbaijan a fascinating and distinctive country, full of new impressions. Baku provided the setting for a wonderful event. The trip brought together sport, team spirit and personal experiences.
I look back fondly on my assignment at the 2017 European Shooting Championships in Baku. The photographs show moments at the competition venue, with the German team and around the city. They complement my memories of this special time with the DSB.
