European Rowing Championships 2026 in Varese: Dr Aust cares for the national team
At the European Rowing Championships Varese 2026, Dr Andreas Aust accompanied the German national rowing team as attending physician. For many years, medical support at training camps and international competitions has been part of his sports medicine work.
2026 European Rowing Championships in Varese: twelve medals for the German team
With five gold, six silver and one bronze medal, Germany finished second in the medal table. On the final day of competition, 2 August 2026, gold medallists included Oliver Zeidler in the men’s single sculls and Kathrin Marchand and Valentin Luz in the PR3 mixed double sculls. Both boats also set new European Championship records. The men’s eight and mixed eight contributed silver medals to the strong overall result.
Alongside the results, the German Rowing Association particularly praised the team's cohesion. It also put these successes into perspective ahead of the subsequent World Championships: not every nation had sent its strongest squad to Varese.
Sports medicine with a personal approach
International competitions demonstrate how closely sporting effort, recovery and medical support are linked. The 2026 European Rowing Championships in Varese highlighted this connection once again. Dr Aust’s many years of work with the national rowing team also inform his assessment of symptoms and physical capacity at his Freiburg practice.
Medical support remains important between races: symptoms are assessed, activity levels adjusted and the return to training and competition discussed together. This provides care that is medically thorough and grounded in everyday needs. At an event involving many decisions, this close coordination helps keep both health and performance in view.
The focus is on each person’s goals: going about daily life with fewer symptoms, returning to their usual training or better understanding what sporting activity they can manage. A careful examination and a shared discussion form the basis for planning the next steps.
